Psalm 119 verse 109 to 112; Keeping The precepts of God procure our eternal Heritage

Psalm 119:109; My life is continually in my hand, Yet I do not forget Your law*.*

The expression may seem to be self-evident, projecting David's awareness that his life and soul—were always in danger from his weak flesh. **This is true for all of us even on this side of the cross, I'm thinking of Paul's statement in Romans 7:18-19; " For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice ." The thought is brought to a conclusion in verses 23 and 24; "** But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?"

The logic behind this axiom is clear, anything taken in our own hand is liable to be easily snatched away as if it were a satchel of jewels or a purse of gold that is seized by robbers. **{yobe} wrestled with this threat and argued with his counselor's in {yobe} 13:14-15: "** Why do I put myself at risk and take my life in my own hands? 15 Even if He kills me, I will hope in Him. I will still defend my ways before Him."

David also put his hope in God, through obedience to God's Holy Law, but on this side of the Cross, our hope is in Christ and His indwelling Holy Spirit.

Psalm 119:110; The wicked have laid a snare for me, Yet I have not strayed from Your precepts*.*

**The wicked have laid a snare for me, similar to what yobe has defined for those who continue in the way of this world; yobe 18:8-10; "** For his own [wicked] feet lead him into a net, and he strays into its mesh. A trap catches ⌊him⌋ by the heel; a noose seizes him. A rope lies hidden for him on the ground, and a snare ⌊waits⌋ for him along the path."

The psalmist picks up on Job {yobe's} dialog in Psalm 9:15 concerning God's enemies. "The nations [that] have fallen into the pit they made; their foot is caught in the net they have concealed," and in 119:85: **"** The arrogant have dug pits for me; they violate Your instruction."

The psalmist was not deterred by the snare of the wicked and he wrote of his victory back in 119: 59-61: "I considered my ways and turned my feet to Your testimonies. 60 I hastened and did not delay to keep Your commandments. 61 The cords of the wicked have encircled me, But I have not forgotten Your precepts."

Psalm 119:111-112: Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart. 112 I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes Forever, to the very end.

God's testimonies are found in the scrolls that are at the foundation of the written Word. It is God's testimony to fallen humankind and offers the path to be followed if one desires to leave the confines of the dark domain and the evil that envelopes it. Through His testimony, God makes Himself known to us through the truth of His Word, His Holy Attributes, His infinite wisdom, His mercy, and justice conclusive of His righteousness and goodness.

As the Old gave testimony to God, so the New Testament testifies of God's Christ. **We read Jesus's words in Luke 24:27; "** Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted for them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures."

Everywhere in the entirety of Scripture, we find the testimony of Jesus, His humility, in taking on human flesh; of his miracle-working power; of his wisdom through the parables; of his patience and love suffered on our behalf. Both the Law and Gospel—the whole book, every part of it is "the testimonies of the Godhead. To this end, David states in verse 162, " I rejoice at Your word, as one who finds great treasure ." The testimonies of his God he has received as an eternal heritage making them his most precious possession.
